Transportation in Cancun
Cancun is one of the top destinations in the Riviera Maya in Mexico, and one of the big questions is, How to get around Cancun? These are the transportation options in Cancun.
How to get from Cancun International Airport to the Hotel Zone
You have just arrived to Cancun with your friends or family and you are all excited about the amazing trip you have planned, but how are you going to travel from place to place?
Getting around in Cancun is fairly easy, public transportation is available, but there are a few tricks that will make your trip more enjoyable and save you money.
Taxi from Cancun Airport to Hotel Zone
As soon as you step on Caribbean soil, you probably and most likely will be flooded with people offering transportation services. One of the most expensive ways to travel from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone is by taxi.
Prices go from $40 USD to more than $100 USD and some taxi drivers ask for a generous tip. If you are in a hurry and there are no other options (more transportation options below), take a taxi to your destination. Just make sure its an official taxi and be careful with fake or clone taxis.
Although, there are a few options that cost less and most of the time are more efficient. Here are a few recommendations.
Rent a car or van
This transportation option is the only one that will give you total freedom for your trip. If you are traveling with 3 or more family members or friends or even by yourself, this is your best choice.
Rent fees per day will go as little as $20 usd per day.

They have departures every hour and you can get your tickets online or at the airport.
The bus goes from the Airport to Cancun (it’s not the same as the hotel zone), from there you can take a taxi to “km 0” (kilometer zero) and then, ride the public transportation Route 1 or Route 2 to the Hotel Zone. The total cost will be about $7 to $10 USD per person.
